Somali and Cameroonian Net Banana Exports

In 1991, Somalia descended into a civil war that would leave the country without a government for roughly two decades. Previously one of the largest exporters of bananas on the continent, Somalia has since turned into a net importer of the fruit. Cameroon is now the continent’s largest exporter of bananas. Trailing or equal to Somali exports until the 1990s, Cameroon was producing an average 263,016 tonnes of banana exports in the first decade of the new millennium while Somalia averaged none.
